Job Description/Profile
On behalf of our client, we are seeking a skilled Lead Accountant to be responsible for:
- Managing all activities of the general accounting function for several multi-tenant property investments.
- Developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure consistency and appropriateness of accounting positions taken.
- Ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
- Working with tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including, general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end tax materials/support preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
- Report directly to the owners and have contact with senior-level managers, and business partners, which requires strong interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal).
Responsibilities
- Perform/supervise all accounting procedures, financial statement preparation, month end closing, journal entries and general ledger maintenance, debt roll forwards, and fixed assets and margin analysis.
- Maintain appropriate and adequate support for all journal entries and judgments made.
- Prepare supporting schedules to financial statements.
- Perform general accounting procedures (A/R, A/P, time billing, P/R, tax payments).
- Review, analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and transactions in conjunction with preparing financial management reports.
- Account reconciliation and analysis.
- Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close and reporting to business owners.
- Support the owners with special projects and workflow process improvements while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Serve as company liaison and assist in the compilation of information for the Company’s annual tax returns.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors and/or Masters Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. The degree should be obtained from a well-recognized university.
- C.P.A. is preferred but not required.
- 5+ years experience in the accounting/finance sector (preferred).
- 3+ years in a position equivalent to a Lead Accountant / Controller or higher responsibilities (preferred).
- Thorough knowledge of general accounting, including application of general accounting theory, accounting principles, practices, standards, and laws and regulations; in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Exceptional computer skills in the operation and of all programs used by the organization, i.e., QuickBooks, Property Manager, Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint, and Access.
- Experience with property management agencies (preferred).
- Exceptional skills in analyzing financial data and promptly generating accurate reports.
- Outstanding skills in organizing budgets, statements of finances, payroll and expenditures.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional work ethic.
- Credibility, ethical, full disclosure and clean financial history.
- Confidential, understands the ethical standards of a CPA.
